Paul Gaggl is an Associate Professor of Economics and Director of the Master of Science in Economics Public Policy at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), affiliated with the Belk College of Business. He holds a PhD from the University of California, Davis. His research focuses on Macroeconomics and Labor Economics, particularly structural change in production networks, capital composition, and automation's societal impacts. He leads the UNC Charlotte Economics Seminar and co-organizes the I-85 Macro Workshop.
Key research areas include the role of electrification in structural transformation, the declining labor share driven by ICT capital, and cyclical labor market polarization. His work has been published in journals like the Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Monetary Economics, and World Bank Economic Review. Gaggl’s research has received media coverage from NPR and the New York Times.
