Professor Paul Dyson is a molecular microbiologist at Swansea University's Swansea University Medical School within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. He leads a research group focused on exploiting bacteria for medical and biotechnological applications, including antibiotic production, RNA interference in insects, and tumor-targeting bacteria. He holds a BSc from the University of East Anglia, a PhD from the University of Glasgow, and a DSc from Swansea University.
His research has yielded four patents involving antibiotic-producing bacteria, RNAi in insect vectors, and bacterial cancer therapy. Teaching interests include Genetics and Biochemistry modules, such as Animal Development and Molecular Microbiology. He actively supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
Recent work spans bacterial cancer therapy models, symbiont-mediated RNAi in insects, and exploring microbial defense systems for new antimicrobials. Collaborations include studies on vector insects' immune responses and paratransgenesis strategies.
