Paul David Siakaluk is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Northern British Columbia, where he has worked since 2004. His research focuses on embodied cognition, particularly how sensorimotor experiences and emotional simulations influence lexical processing and semantic categorization. He supervises graduate students in Psychology and has co-organized the Banff Annual Seminar in Cognitive Science (BASICS) conference.
- Education: PhD in Cognitive Psychology (University of Alberta, 2002)
- Academic Rank: Professor (2016–present), Associate Professor (2008–2016), Assistant Professor (2004–2008)
His scholarship explores the body-object interaction effect—how physical experience with concepts impacts language processing—and extends to emotional experience and abstract word representation. His 2016 Frontiers in Psychology study on emotional experience in lexical decision exemplifies this work.
Scientific distinctions include:
- NSERC grants (2013–2018, 2007–2012, 2005–2007)
- UNBC Excellence in Teaching Award (2008)
- NSERC PGS-A/B fellowships (1998–2002)
He supervises graduate students in Psychology and collaborates with researchers like Dr. Penny Pexman and Dr. William Owen. His lab investigates semantic richness effects and insult processing using behavioral and neuroimaging methods.
