Paul Daniel Mixon serves as a Professor at Arkansas State University, where he is passionately engaged in teaching engineering students and developing new academic programs. He is currently designing an undergraduate Computer Engineering program while working to increase graduate enrollment and expand engineering initiatives across the institution. An accomplished mountaineer, he has summited 35 of Colorado's 14,000-foot peaks and aims to become the first Arkansan to complete all 53 Colorado 14ers.
His academic philosophy centers on engineering's societal impact, emphasizing that "the primary motivation for studying engineering is to use your skills to help people and improve quality of life." He champions university education as essential preparation for life's challenges, believing its value "cannot be overstated" in demonstrating a graduate's capabilities. His teaching approach prioritizes lifelong learning and practical application within engineering disciplines.
Professor Mixon actively mentors students while developing new program structures and recruitment strategies for engineering education. He balances academic responsibilities with extensive mountaineering expeditions, including trips to South America, and maintains strong community ties in Jonesboro where he appreciates the "modern city with a small town feel." His professional development focuses on creating sustainable engineering programs that address regional workforce needs while advancing pedagogical innovation.
