A/Prof Paul Buntine is Acting Executive Director of the Eastern Health Institute and Director of Emergency Medicine Research at Eastern Health. He is an Emergency Physician at Box Hill Hospital and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Monash University’s Eastern Health Clinical School. His research focuses on improving diagnostic decision-making, reducing low-value healthcare, and optimizing emergency department workflows. He leads the Eastern Health Emergency Research Program, coordinating studies such as ARISE FLUIDS and EDNAV, and contributes to pediatric research via the PREDICT network.
Key achievements include the No Unnecessary Tests (NUTs) project, which won the 2016 Victorian Public Healthcare Award. He oversees academic partnerships with Monash, Latrobe, and Deakin Universities and has secured over $3.5M in research grants. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education and good health.
