Paul Buijs

Paul Buijs is an Associate Professor in the Department of Operations at the University of Groningen. He holds a MSc in Industrial Engineering and Management (2010) and a PhD in Sustainable Logistics (2014), both from the University of Groningen. His research focuses on the sustainability transition in logistics, addressing challenges such as urban freight transport, decarbonization of road freight, and equitable green logistics solutions. He collaborates with firms and policymakers to develop practical solutions for evolving sustainability challenges.

He teaches courses including Supply Chain Coordination and Supply Chain Operations, and supervises M.Sc. theses. His funded projects include leading the GLEAM NSR initiative (2023-2027) and contributing to EU Horizon-funded projects like GreenTurn and ULaaDS. He has received awards such as the Physical Internet Generation Award (2018) and Impact Case: Urban Freight Transport (2023).

His research spans over 40 publications, with recent work emphasizing sustainable delivery networks, parcel locker systems, and decarbonization strategies. He supervises multiple PhD candidates and leads initiatives like the Field Lab Sustainable Logistics Hubs.
