Pau Rausell Köster

Pau Rausell Köster is a Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the Universitat de Valencia, where he has been director of the Research Area in Applied Economics in Culture since 1993. He is also affiliated with the Interuniversity Institute for Local Development (Universities of Valencia and Jaume I de Castellón) in the field of Tourism and Cultural Economics. He actively participates in European and Ibero-American research initiatives and collaborates with numerous cultural institutions across Spain and Latin America.

His research focuses on the Economics of Culture, including cultural policy, public funding of cultural institutions, efficiency analysis of theatres and museums, cultural tourism, and the socio-economic impact of culture. He has significantly contributed to regional cultural studies, particularly in the Valencian Community and Murcia, and has explored the strategic role of culture in local development. His work bridges academic research and public policy, advising governmental and cultural bodies on management, evaluation, and training needs.

Rauzell Köster teaches Tourism Policy II and Cultural Management at the University of Valencia and participates in multiple official Master’s programs across Spanish universities, including those in Cultural Management, Tourism Planning, Museology, and Information Society. He frequently contributes opinion pieces to regional media such as EL PAÍS and Levante-EMV.

His scholarly output includes several influential books, such as Políticas y sectores culturales en la Comunidad Valenciana, El valor económico de la cultura en la Región de Murcia, and Cultura: Estrategia para el desarrollo local. His articles appear in prestigious national and international journals covering topics like citizen participation in heritage valuation, cultural labor markets, and the economics of language. He regularly presents at conferences and has been invited as a guest lecturer at universities in Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay, and Spain.

He leads research projects commissioned by institutions like the Valencia Fine Arts Museum, the Fallas Artists Guild, Fundación Autor (SGAE), Murcia Cultural Council, Gran Canaria Island Council, the Ibero-American States Organization, and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation. He also organizes national and international seminars and training courses in cultural management.
