Patrik Floreen is a Visiting Professor at Aalto University's Department of Computer Science, affiliated with the Myllymäki Petri Group (HIIT) and the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (HIIT). He holds a Doctoral degree in Engineering and Technology from the University of Helsinki (1992), a Licentiate in Natural Sciences (1990), and a Master's in Engineering (1988).
His research focuses on information retrieval, interactive intent modeling, and collaborative search systems. Key areas include exploratory search interfaces, proactive search mechanisms, and user-centric design. Floreen's work emphasizes improving user experience through context-aware systems and entity-centric exploration.
He has led the ReKnow2 research project (2015–2017) and contributed to over 27 publications. Notable outputs include advancements in visual intent modeling and multi-device collaborative search. Floreen has held editorial roles, hosted academic visitors, and engaged in international collaborations.
