Patrick Thöni is a Research Fellow at the Department of Economics, University of Copenhagen, where he has been employed since December 2017. He teaches graduate courses including Advanced Microeconometrics (Fall 2018) and Advanced Empirical Finance (Spring 2021).
His research centers on Financial Market Microstructure and Empirical Microstructure, with specific focus on how Financial Transaction Taxes can mitigate market imperfections. Additional interests include Asset Allocation, Asset Pricing, and High-Frequency Econometrics methodologies for analyzing market dynamics.
His 2020 publication in Economics and Business Letters examines heterogeneous effects of financial transaction taxes across market conditions, demonstrating context-dependent outcomes in market efficiency and stability. This work bridges theoretical tax policy frameworks with empirical market analysis in finance and public economics.
