Patrick Soentjens

Patrick Soentjens is Associate Professor and Head of the Travel Clinic at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium. As an infectious diseases specialist, he leads clinical and research efforts in travel medicine, vaccine development, and outbreak response. He diagnosed Belgium's first COVID-19 case and managed the 2022 monkeypox outbreak. His work includes pioneering intradermal rabies vaccine trials and establishing phage therapy coordination.

He chairs the Belgian Study Group of Travel Medicine and advises multiple health agencies including the European Medicines Agency. Recent research focuses on optimized vaccine schedules and management of multidrug-resistant infections.
