Dr. Patrick Reitinger is a Researcher in the Historical Geographies department at the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography (IfL) in Leipzig, Germany. His work focuses on historical geography, particularly 19th- and 20th-century regional studies, cultural landscape research, and Central/Eastern European studies. He holds a PhD in Historical Geography from the University of Bamberg (2022) and has held guest researcher positions at institutions including Charles University in Prague and the Collegium Carolinum in Munich.
Key research interests include spatialization theory, regional identity formation, and the intersection of ideology with geographical scholarship. He has received the Otto Meyer and Elisabeth Roth Prize for his dissertation on Bavarian Ostmark spatialization in the Weimar Republic.
