Patrick Munroe serves as a Research Associate II in Data Science and Operational Research at GERAD, affiliated with HEC Montréal. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from McGill University (2015) and has developed expertise at the intersection of theoretical mathematics and practical optimization problems.
His research focuses on:
- Mathematical optimization methods
- Air cargo management systems
- Personnel scheduling algorithms
- Stochastic modeling for logistics
Munroe's work demonstrates a strong transition from theoretical mathematics to applied operational research. His publications reveal expertise in developing sophisticated algorithms for complex real-world problems, particularly in transportation and logistics sectors. He combines mathematical rigor with practical industry applications through his partnership with Air Canada.
From December 2017 to April 2021, he conducted postdoctoral research at Polytechnique Montréal's Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering under Professors François Soumis and Issmail El Hallaoui, focusing on air cargo management. From June 2021 to May 2022, he continued this work with a focus on personnel scheduling problems under the co-direction of Guy Desaulniers.
