Patrick McNeil is Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Medicine and Health) and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences at Macquarie University. He leads MQ Health, Australia’s first fully integrated academic health sciences enterprise. He established Macquarie’s medical school (launched 2018) and focuses on patient-centered clinical care excellence. Previously, he held leadership roles at UNSW Medicine, including Associate Dean of Education, and served as Chair of Arthritis Australia.
Education:
- B Med Sc and MB BS, University of Tasmania (1977–1980)
- PhD in Immunology, UNSW (1991)
- Post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School
Research Focus:
- Mast cell biology in autoimmune diseases
- Rheumatoid arthritis pathogenesis
- Innovative medical education curricula
Leadership Experience:
- Executive Clinical Director, Liverpool Hospital (2012–2014)
- Rheumatology Chair at Liverpool Hospital (2005–2012)
Advising & Grants: Spearheaded transformative medical education programs at UNSW and Macquarie. Active in national advocacy for arthritis patients through Arthritis Australia (2010–2014).
Labs/Teams: Leads MQ Health’s interdisciplinary clinical and research enterprise, integrating education, research, and healthcare delivery.
