Dr. Patrick M. Alexander is an Associate Research Scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO), part of Columbia University's Columbia Climate School, within the Department of Marine Geology and Geophysics. His work focuses on cryospheric science, particularly ice-climate interactions and polar ice sheets. He holds a Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Science from the CUNY Graduate Center and degrees in Environmental Engineering from Columbia University. Alexander's research integrates remote sensing, climate models, and field observations to study sea level rise mechanisms.
Education:
- Ph.D., Earth and Environmental Science, CUNY Graduate Center (2015)
- M.S., Environmental Engineering, Columbia University (2010)
- B.S., Environmental Engineering, Columbia University (2009)
Research Interests: Ice sheet dynamics, snow and ice albedo, climate modeling, sea ice interactions, and remote sensing applications. His work emphasizes the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, focusing on surface mass balance, firn densification, and climate feedback mechanisms.
Key Projects: Led projects like the 'Anticipatory Assessment of Future US Droughts' (2020–2022), exploring drought drivers in North America. His work on ice shelf stability and albedo modeling has advanced global climate models.
Labs/Teams: Active in LDEO's cryospheric research groups, collaborating with NASA Goddard and international climate initiatives like ISMIP6.
