Dr. Patrick Ilg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Reading, part of the School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences. He serves as Admissions Tutor and focuses on soft condensed matter systems, nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, and computer simulations. His research explores polymers, liquid crystals, colloids, and interfaces using methods like Molecular Dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations.
Key research areas include structure-dynamics relationships in supercooled liquids, magnetoviscosity in ferrofluids, and coarse-graining techniques. Recent work involves magnetic nanoparticle response analysis, ferrofluid flow dynamics, and rheology of complex fluids. His studies bridge micro- and macroscopic scales, with applications in materials science and nanotechnology.
Teaching responsibilities include Applied Stochastic Processes (MA3APS) and Mathematical Physics (MA3MP/MA4MP). He collaborates with the Complex Fluids and Theoretical Polymer Physics group and maintains a personal website detailing full publication lists.
