Patrick Heslin

Patrick Heslin is a Researcher in the Applied Analysis group at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig, Germany, since September 2024.

He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame under Professor Gerard Misiołek. His research focuses on the geometry and analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations in fluid dynamics and mathematical physics, specifically examining Riemannian geometry of diffeomorphism groups with right-invariant Sobolev-type metrics.

Dr. Heslin actively contributes to the Applied Analysis group's collaborative environment, leveraging his expertise in geometric PDE theory. His work bridges differential geometry, functional analysis, and mathematical physics, with applications in fluid mechanics.

Outside research, he enjoys bouldering (taken up in August 2024), Gaelic Athletic Association sports, time with family/pets, and social activities in Leipzig.
