Patrick Harris is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental and Geosciences at Sam Houston State University. He holds a PhD from Texas A&M University and completed his BS and MS at the University of Arkansas. His research focuses on low-temperature geochemistry of Vertisols, clay mineral interactions with soil stabilizers, and rare earth element mineralogy in Arkansas deposits. He collaborates across disciplines with soil scientists, chemists, and engineers to address geotechnical challenges like soil swelling mitigation and aggregate quality assessment.
Education: BS and MS from University of Arkansas; PhD from Texas A&M University.
Research interests include diagenetic processes in sedimentary rocks, chemical weathering dynamics, and economic geology applications. His work has addressed oil industry-related diagenesis, salt dome caprock degradation, and geochemical stabilization techniques for expansive soils.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams in geochemistry, mineralogy, and geotechnical engineering through institutional and industry partnerships.
