معرفی
Patrick Hanington is a Professor and Associate Dean of Education at the University of Alberta's School of Public Health. He holds a BSc (2002), PhD (2008), and postdoctoral training from the University of New Mexico (2010). His research focuses on schistosomiasis control, integrating immunological, environmental, and public health approaches to disrupt parasite transmission from snails to humans. Key projects include molecular cercariometry for waterborne pathogen monitoring and community-driven surveillance programs.
Education:
- BSc, University of Alberta, 2002
- PhD, University of Alberta, 2008
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of New Mexico, 2010
Research Interests: Schistosomiasis transmission dynamics, environmental health interventions, immunology of snail-parasite interactions, and global health policy. His work emphasizes field-based solutions such as qPCR-based detection systems and community education initiatives.
Recent Work Trends: Articles from 2020–2025 highlight molecular tools for pathogen surveillance, immune evasion mechanisms in schistosomes, and ecological studies of trematode transmission. Themes include applied public health strategies, aquatic parasite biology, and interdisciplinary approaches to disease control.
Awards:
- Andrew Stewart Memorial Prize (2007)
- NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship (2008)
- Henry Baldwin Ward Medal (2022)
Teaching & Leadership: Teaches SPH 414/514 (Environmental Health), emphasizing global and community health issues. Leads initiatives to bridge academic research with practical public health outcomes.
