Patrick Gourley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics & Business Analytics at the Pompea College of Business, University of New Haven. Originally from Naperville, Illinois, he holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Colorado Boulder and bachelor’s degrees in economics and English from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
He has taught at the University of New Haven since 2016. His research spans diverse economic subfields, including the impact of resource booms on crime, economic growth effects on Green Party electoral success, and analyses of tariffs, supply chains, and housing markets. He frequently provides expert commentary in media outlets on topics like gas prices, inflation, student loan policies, and the economic implications of the Baltimore bridge collapse.
His media appearances include NBC Connecticut, Fox Business, Washington Examiner, and The Hill. He has co-authored papers on teaching economic theory through gamification and commented on pandemic-era economic policies, recession risks, and corporate strategies related to remote work.
