Dr. Patrick Giguère is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Ottawa, where he holds the Canada Research Chair in Molecular Pharmacology & Drug Discovery. His research integrates pharmacological, biochemical, and structural approaches to study opioid receptor signaling and functional selectivity.
His laboratory discovered that sodium ions selectively modulate arrestin recruitment at delta-opioid receptors, which may explain side effect profiles of opioid drugs. Current projects focus on developing functionally selective allosteric modulators and chemogenetic screening platforms for orphan GPCRs. The lab employs advanced molecular pharmacology techniques and high-throughput screening methods.
