Patrick Gallagher

Patrick Gallagher is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Texas at San Antonio, affiliated with the College of Liberal and Fine Arts. His research bridges environmental anthropology and science studies, focusing on the intersection of climate change, capitalism, and conservation practices in Belize and the Caribbean.

Research Interests
Gallagher investigates the cultural politics of nature, market-driven conservation strategies, and the social impacts of climate change. His forthcoming book, Valuing Nature at the Ends of the World, examines how colonial histories and climate science shape contemporary conservation capitalism in Belize.

Academic Contributions
Recent presentations include topics on Anthropocene ecologies, coastal resilience, and the racialized dimensions of environmental value. His publications analyze ecological knowledge production, seaweed management, and the contradictions of market-based conservation.
