Patrick Faubert

Patrick Faubert is an Associate Professor in the Department of Fundamental Sciences at the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi (UQAC), where he serves as Co-director of the Chair in Eco-Consulting and Co-director of Carbone boréal research infrastructure. His academic journey includes a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Eastern Finland (2010), a Master's degree in Plant Biology from Laval University (2004), and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Laval University (2001).

Dr. Faubert's research focuses on industrial ecology and climate change mitigation, with particular emphasis on the use of industrial by-products for forestry applications. His work examines soil biogeochemistry, forest restoration techniques, greenhouse gas emissions, and volatile organic compound dynamics in boreal ecosystems. He leads interdisciplinary research that bridges environmental science with practical industrial applications, working closely with partners in the pulp and paper industry, aluminum sector, and government agencies.

His recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate continued productivity across multiple high-impact journals including Nature, PLOS Climate, and Forest Ecology and Management. These works examine topics ranging from soil carbon dynamics in boreal forests to greenhouse gas assessment methodologies and climate adaptation in boreal tree species. The research shows a strong focus on practical applications of ecological principles to address climate change challenges.

Dr. Faubert actively supervises graduate students, currently advising 8 Master's students directly and serving as Co-Advisor for 3 additional graduate students. His mentorship extends to former students who have completed their degrees under his direction, including several Master's theses focused on greenhouse gas emissions, forest restoration, and industrial by-product applications.

Through the Chair in Eco-Consulting, Dr. Faubert develops practical tools for industry and government, including greenhouse gas emissions calculators and carbon footprint assessment frameworks. His work exemplifies the integration of academic research with real-world environmental solutions, particularly in the context of Quebec's boreal forest management and industrial sustainability challenges.
