Patrick D. Hanly is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management at the Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina. With a 37-year career in leadership and management, he transitioned from a 24-year U.S. Army career to academia in 1999. He holds a BS in General Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), an MA in Management from Webster University, and a graduate degree from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

His expertise spans leadership development, international operations, and organizational management. He co-created USC’s first for-credit Leadership in Organizations course and has taught Principles of Management and related subjects to undergraduate students. Hanly has held leadership roles such as Director of Operations (overseeing a $63B organization’s facility upgrades), Director of Alumni Relations, and Managing Director of International MBA programs. His military career involved commanding units globally and managing $200M resources.
He is a past president of the Columbia chapter of the Association of Graduates of the Military Academy and has fostered global alumni networks, securing internships for students. His work emphasizes translating strategic plans into actionable outcomes, evident in facility renovations and international collaborations.
