Dr. Patrick Cullen is a Senior Lecturer in Renewable Energy at Queen Mary University of London, leading the Admissions for Chemical Engineering and Sustainable Energy Engineering. He holds roles as EDI Co-Lead and is affiliated with the Centre for Sustainable Engineering. His expertise lies in synthesizing nanomaterials for energy devices, including Li-ion batteries, Na-ion batteries, and hydrogen fuel cells, alongside developing operando techniques using neutron and synchrotron facilities.
Educated at the University of Oxford (MChem, 2009) and University College London (PhD, 2015), he has held prestigious fellowships, including the EPSRC Doctoral Prize and RCUK EPSRC Innovation Fellowships. His research focuses on energy materials, catalysis, and sustainable technologies, with projects on CO₂ reduction, hydrogen storage, and advanced battery electrodes.
His lab utilizes cutting-edge facilities such as air-free synthesis environments and neutron scattering at ISIS and Diamond Light Source. Recent grants include Innovate UK funding for sodium batteries and collaborations with industry on hydrogen evolution and redox flow batteries.
