Patrick Crowley is a Professor of Computer Science & Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, affiliated with the McKelvey School of Engineering. As Director of the Applied Research Laboratory, his work focuses on scalable networking systems, security, and the intersection of computer architecture with networking. He holds a PhD from the University of Washington (2003) and a BA from Illinois Wesleyan University (1996).
His research pioneered high-performance networking architectures and influenced commercial network processors. Crowley co-founded Observable Networks (as CTO) and the ACM/IEEE Symposium on Architectures for Networking and Communications Systems (ANCS). He is also co-editor of the Network Processor Design book series. His recent grants include NSF awards totaling $2.1M for aligning research with real-world applications.
Research infrastructure includes the Open Network Lab and Global NDN Testbed. Notable recognition includes DARPA Computer Science Study Group membership (2007). His expertise spans network systems architecture, security protocols, and applied research commercialization.
