Patrick Bryan serves as an Associate Professor of Biology at Middlesex Community College, where he has taught General Biology, Zoology, and Introduction to Biology since 2005. Previously, he spent six years teaching Cell Biology, Invertebrate Zoology, and Coral Reef Natural History at Central Washington University.
His educational background:
- Bachelor's in Biology (Marine Science emphasis) from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania
- Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham
- Postdoctoral research at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and USC's Wrigley Institute
Dr. Bryan's research focuses on marine chemical ecology, investigating how invertebrates use chemical signals for mating, defense, and larval metamorphosis. His fieldwork spans Antarctica, California, North Carolina, and China, with applications in pharmaceutical development. He examines energetics of larval development in species like sea stars and sea urchins at marine stations including Bamfield and McMurdo.
He received the Most Inspirational Biology Instructor award from Central Washington University's student biology club and department.
Administratively, Dr. Bryan serves as Middlesex's biotechnology coordinator and previously managed Academic Advising. He secured research grants for marine studies and maintains active field research. An endurance athlete, he trains for half marathons targeting Boston Marathon qualification.
