Patricia Sharpnack is the Dean of The Breen School of Nursing and holds the Strawbridge Professorship at Ursuline College. She earned her BSN from Ursuline College, MSN from The University of Akron, and DNP from Case Western Reserve University. Her professional certifications include CNE (Certified Nurse Educator), NEA-BC (Certified Nursing Executive), ANEF (Academy of Nursing Education Fellow), and FAAN (Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing). Dr. Sharpnack's work spans clinical roles in critical care, home care, and maternal-child nursing, with a focus on academic-practice partnerships, active learning strategies, and innovative clinical education.
Her research interests emphasize competency development, healthcare policy, cultural competence, and the integration of technology in nursing education. Recent articles explore academic partnerships, competency-based education, and the role of AI in fostering innovation. She has received awards for her leadership in nursing education and policy advocacy, including her role as Ohio Board of Nursing president.
Dr. Sharpnack champions initiatives like the NLN’s global nursing education partnerships and competency assessment systems. She advocates for nurse educators’ professional citizenship and mental health support, emphasizing ethical decision-making and cultural sensitivity in practice. Her work bridges educational theory and clinical practice through dedicated education units and interprofessional collaborations.
