Patricia McGuire is a Professor at Carleton University's School of Social Work. An Anishinaabe Wiisaakodewikwe (Ojibwe woman) affiliated with Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabe and connected to Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabe, she specializes in developing respectful frameworks for integrating Anishinaabe knowledge into academic, social, and political spheres.
Her educational background includes a Master's in Sociology from Lakehead University (2003) and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Saskatchewan (2013), where her dissertation explored Indigenous knowledge and resilience through the lens of Anishinaabe Giikeedaasiwin.
McGuire's research spans Indigenous knowledge systems, resilience, healing practices, safe spaces, community resurgence, and ethical methodologies for Indigenous research. She has contributed peer-reviewed publications and co-edited First Voices – An Aboriginal Women’s Reader, demonstrating her commitment to amplifying Indigenous voices in academia and direct practice with post-secondary and Indigenous institutions.
