Patricia L. MacKinnon is a Lecturer Emerita in the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of California, Davis. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where her dissertation, The Analogy of the Body Politic, explored the psyche/polis correlation in works by Plato, Virgil, Augustine, Dante, Petrarch, and Ariosto. Over four decades, she has taught at UCLA, Stanford, St. Lawrence University, Clarkson University, and UC Davis, focusing on globally oriented Humanities and Liberal Arts programs.

Her research interests span Medieval and Renaissance literature, with a focus on intertextuality and classical influences. She has designed courses on Dante’s Divine Comedy, chivalric romance, and world literature. As an Emerita faculty member, she continues to teach courses on Dante’s work through the University’s Honors Program and Humanities initiatives.
Dr. MacKinnon served as Graduate Advisor in pedagogy for the Comparative Literature Department and actively contributed to university committees. Her teaching portfolio includes Medieval Studies, First Year Seminars, and courses on fantasy literature.
