Patricia Kay McCormick

Patricia Kay McCormick is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Wayne State University's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. She researches telecommunications and space sectors within broader economic and political contexts, with recent focus on climate change impacts on water scarcity and human migration in MENA regions.

Her research examines EU drone/satellite surveillance of Mediterranean migration patterns and aid-for-detention agreements. Previous work analyzed institutional reforms in African/Caribbean telecommunications and privatization impacts on international satellite organizations.

Publications frequently address space governance, surveillance technologies, and international policy frameworks. Recent works analyze space situational awareness systems and Japan's security-space policy evolution.

McCormick teaches courses including Telecommunications Policy, International Communications, and Media Analysis. She holds a PhD in Telecommunication from Michigan State University and serves in the Irvin D. Reid Honors College.
