Dr. Patricia Gillen is a Reader in Nursing at Ulster University's School of Nursing and Paramedic Science, with a joint appointment as Head of Research and Development for Nurses, Midwives, and AHPs at Southern Health and Social Care Trust. She also serves as Associate Postgraduate Tutor for the Maternal, Fetal and Infant Research Centre and leads the Athena Swan Subgroup on Culture and Support.

Her research interests span workplace culture (bullying, burnout), perinatal mental health, birth location choices, and public involvement in research. Current projects include pandemic-era healthcare workforce wellbeing, international collaborations on midwifery bullying, and home birth experience analyses using her developed data tools.
Patricia has contributed to regional guidelines (RQIA 2016 & 2019) and leads multidisciplinary research teams. She received multiple scientific awards including the 2022 SDG Research Prize and 2021 ESWRA Award for Social Work Research. Her teaching spans undergraduate to postgraduate levels, focusing on research implementation and emergency healthcare education.
