Patricia Dickson

Patricia Dickson, M.D., is an Associate Professor In-Residence at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, affiliated with the Department of Pediatrics at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Dickson's research focuses on mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS), particularly MPS Type I (Hurler syndrome), and the development of enzyme replacement therapies (ERT) and gene therapies for lysosomal storage disorders. Her work spans neuroscience, pediatric neurology, and cross-species translational research, utilizing canine models and mouse models to study brain and spinal cord pathology. She has extensively investigated intrathecal enzyme delivery mechanisms and immune responses to ERT, with recent studies on AAV9 gene therapy and neural stem cell grafts for Sanfilippo syndrome.

Her publications demonstrate expertise in diffusion tensor imaging, glycan-based biomarkers, and pharmacological interventions for neurodegenerative lysosomal diseases. Current projects include enzyme-IGFII fusion proteins and intra-articular gene therapy approaches. Dr. Dickson's work bridges basic science and clinical applications, particularly at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center's Department of Pediatrics, which emphasizes research infrastructure through the Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Research.
