Patricia Buenrostro

Patricia Buenrostro (she/her) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Illinois Chicago. As a native Chicagoan and former secondary mathematics educator with over 20 years of experience, she focuses on creating counter-cultural educational spaces that affirm the academic, cultural, and political identities of Black and Latiné students. Her work bridges theory and practice through collaborations with schools and communities.

Service & Advocacy: Active as a task force member for the Sustainable Community Schools Taskforce, a collaboration between Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Teachers’ Union aimed at strengthening neighborhood schools in marginalized communities.
