Pat Akey JR is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto Mississauga's Department of Management. He concurrently serves as a Visiting Professor at INSEAD and holds Research Member status at the European Corporate Governance Institute. Akey earned his PhD in Finance (2014) from the London Business School, preceded by an MRes in Finance and a BCom from McGill University.
His research explores intersections between legal/political systems and corporate finance, with a focus on cybersecurity policy and pro-social corporate behavior. Major outlets include the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Review of Financial Studies. Notable awards include the 2021 Brattle Prize and RFS Rising Scholar Award.
Teaching responsibilities include Business Finance II (Undergraduate) and advanced PhD courses in Empirical Corporate Finance. He secured a Connaught Fund grant (2016–2018) for research on policy uncertainty impacts.
