Professor Pasi Vahimaa is a prominent academic at the University of Joensuu, affiliated with the Department of Physics and Mathematics within the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology. His research focuses on theoretical optics, photonics, and the application of advanced technologies in education. He leads projects such as the Mehtimäki Well-being and Sports Testing Center, emphasizing innovation in learning environments and healthcare through photonics. His work integrates flipped learning, VR/AR, and AI/ML to enhance educational tools and sensor technologies for monitoring learning processes.
Key research interests include diffractive optics, optical coherence, SERS substrates, nanomaterials, and the development of sensor systems.
