Dr. Paschale McCarthy is an Assistant Professor in the Psychology, Health and Gender department at the American University of Paris (AUP), where she has been since 2005. She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Paris VII-Denis Diderot, alongside multiple Master's degrees from Trinity College Dublin and Paris VII. Her research focuses on identity formation in multicultural contexts and the impact of anxiety on self-construction, particularly in bilingual children. She has published extensively on selective mutism, including a 2013 book titled "Le mutisme sélectif chez les enfants bilingues: un silence éloquent". As a practising clinical psychologist, McCarthy integrates clinical practice with academic research, addressing issues like social anxiety and selective mutism. She has taught courses such as Introduction to Clinical Psychology and Abnormal & Clinical Psychology at AUP, as well as at institutions like Paris V and Paris VII.
