Pascal Verhoest is a Senior Lecturer in Communication Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Research Manager of the ECHO research group focusing on media, culture, and politics. He holds a PhD in Social Sciences from VUB (1996) and has maintained academic ties with the university since 1996, transitioning to full-time faculty in 2015. His career includes roles as Senior Researcher and Strategist at TNO (Netherlands), advisor to Belgian government ministries, and Research Manager at Artevelde University College Ghent. His research spans environmental communication, ICT policy, media diversity, and public perception of technological advancements.
Key projects include investigations into wastewater reuse feasibility (GROW project), media representation of Brussels, and responsive diversity in news media. He has received awards for innovative ICT policy frameworks and contributions to global development communication. His work bridges academic research with practical policy implementation, particularly in e-government and sustainable resource management.
Verhoest’s scholarship emphasizes the societal impact of media narratives, digital inclusion strategies, and the interplay between cultural schemas and public opinion. He has supervised 72 academic works and contributed to over 150 publications, reflecting his expertise in transdisciplinary research methodologies.
