Dr Paolo Stracchi is a Senior Lecturer in Architectural Technology at the University of Sydney’s School of Architecture, Design, and Planning. He holds a PhD in Architecture and Construction from the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Joining the University of Sydney in 2018, he served as Program Director for the Master of Architecture program from 2020 to 2024.
His research focuses on construction history, particularly the late modern to contemporary eras, with notable work on Italian engineer Pier Luigi Nervi’s collaboration with Harry Seidler in Australia and the construction history of the Sydney Opera House. In 2022, he received the Dr AM Hertzberg AO Fellowship for research on modern architecture’s role in NSW’s construction industry (1950–1980).
Stracchi’s research has been published in journals like Casabella and L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui, and he has authored edited books such as Small Places of Worship. His current projects explore digital heritage construction, circular economy applications, and the Sydney Opera House’s legacy. Media features include coverage in the Sydney Morning Herald.
He has secured grants such as the 2022 Building Knowledge grant from the NSW Library Council. Collaborations include work with scholars like Luca Tombesi and Laura Cardellicchio on heritage documentation and structural analysis.
