Paolo Sodini is a Professor of Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) and a fellow at the Swedish House of Finance (SHoF). He serves as the director of MiDa—the Institute for Micro Data at SSE & SHoF—and is a founder of the European Network of Household Finance. His research focuses on Household Finance, examining how households use financial markets to achieve their goals, with particular emphasis on portfolio diversification, financial mistakes, and the determinants of welfare inequality. Recent work explores homeownership’s impact on economic behavior and gender differences in housing markets.
Education: PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Research interests include household financial decision-making, real estate markets, savings behavior, and the role of financial sophistication. He has published in top journals like the Journal of Finance, American Economic Review, and Quarterly Journal of Economics. His teaching spans Fixed Income, Investment, and Wealth Management at undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels.
As director of MiDa, Sodini leads efforts to analyze micro-level data for financial research. His work often involves collaborative projects, such as the Swedish homeownership experiment, and addresses policy-relevant questions about wealth inequality and market participation.
