Paolo Saona is a Professor of Finance at the Department of Business and Economics, Saint Louis University-Madrid. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Valladolid, Spain, an MBA and B.S. in Business from Austral University of Chile. His academic career spans over two decades with significant contributions to corporate finance and governance literature.
Dr. Saona's research focuses on Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Decisions, Family Firms, Financial Systems, and Capital Structure. His work examines how governance mechanisms, ownership structures, and ESG factors influence firm performance and financial decision-making across different institutional contexts, particularly in emerging markets and Europe.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend toward ESG research, with multiple studies examining board gender diversity, zero-debt policies in BRICS countries, and the relationship between ESG initiatives and firm value. His work combines rigorous empirical methods with theoretical frameworks from agency theory and institutional economics.
Among his notable awards and recognitions, Dr. Saona has published in top finance journals including Emerging Markets Review (Q1, IF: 4.800), Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance (Q1, IF: 8.222), and Spanish Accounting Review.
