Paolo STOPPA is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems at Ca' Foscari University of Venice. He is actively engaged in research and teaching in the field of Physical Chemistry, with a focus on high-resolution spectroscopy and molecular analysis of environmentally relevant compounds. His work bridges experimental and computational approaches to understand molecular structures and their atmospheric implications.
His research interests include:
- Physical Chemistry
- Molecular Spectroscopy (FTIR, rotational, vibrational)
- Computational Chemistry
- Atmospheric and Environmental Chemistry
- Halogenated Refrigerants and Pollutants
- Cultural Heritage Science
Dr. Stoppa's recent publications (2022–2025) highlight a consistent focus on the spectroscopic characterization of halogenated compounds, particularly next-generation refrigerants and deuterated species. These studies employ advanced techniques such as high-resolution FTIR and ro-vibrational analysis, often integrated with computational modeling. His work contributes to understanding global warming potential, radiative efficiency, and molecular behavior in the atmosphere. Key journals include the Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy & Radiative Transfer, ChemPhysChem, and The Journal of Physical Chemistry A.
He teaches core courses in Physical Chemistry and Spectroscopy for undergraduate programs such as Sustainable Chemistry and Technologies and Science and Technologies for Cultural Heritage. Specific courses include Physical Chemistry 2, Spectroscopy and Exercises, and Applied Physical Chemistry for Cultural Heritage.
Dr. Stoppa holds key roles in laboratory management and safety, serving as:
- Preposto di Laboratorio (Laboratory Safety Officer)
- Responsabile dell’Attività di Didattica e Ricerca in Laboratorio (RDRL) – Responsible for Teaching and Research Laboratory Activities
He is based at the scientific campus on via Torino, in office 214 and research lab 208 of the Epsilon building. His work supports both academic training and environmental research, particularly in the development and analysis of sustainable chemical technologies.
