Dr Paolo Dardanelli is a Reader in Comparative Politics at the University of Kent's School of Politics and International Relations. He has held visiting appointments at Harvard University, the University of Cologne, the University of Bern, and the Autonomous University of Madrid. His research focuses on de/centralization, federalism, democracy, and nationalism. Dr Dardanelli has been funded by organizations including the ESRC, British Academy, Swiss National Science Foundation, and others. He authored books such as Restructuring the European State and advised UK government bodies, the Scottish Parliament, and international organizations like the OECD and Forum of Federations.
His research explores territorial political structures, including the De/Centralisation Dataset (DcD). He supervises PhD students in comparative politics, with past advisees focusing on secessionist discourse, federalism in Ethiopia, and Polish-German relations. Dr Dardanelli collaborates with professional associations like the American Political Science Association and serves as the University of Kent's representative to the European Consortium for Political Research.
