معرفی
Dr. Paolo Actis is an Associate Professor of Bio-nanotechnology at the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Leeds, where he also serves as Deputy Director for Student Education and APT Lead. His research lies at the intersection of nanotechnology and biomedicine, focusing on single-cell and single-molecule analysis for disease diagnosis and understanding.
His research interests include:
- Single-cell nanosurgery for genetic material extraction in glioblastoma (GBM) studies
- Single-molecule biosensing using DNA origami and nanopore sensors for early disease detection
- Single-molecule nanoinjection to investigate neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s disease
These technologies aim to achieve unprecedented resolution in cellular and molecular analysis. He collaborates widely with biologists, physicians, and even artists, designers, and chefs, reflecting a transdisciplinary ethos.
Dr. Actis leads the ELEC5650 module on Medical Electronics and e-Health and supervises postgraduate researchers such as Rachel Bocking. He is affiliated with the Pollard Institute and actively recruits PhD students.
His professional journey includes a PhD from Grenoble Institute of Technology (2008), research experience at NASA Ames and UC Santa Cruz, a post at Imperial College London, and industry experience at Bio Nano Consulting.
He maintains active scholarly profiles on Google Scholar, ORCID, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
