Paola Marini

Paola Marini is an Associate Professor at the Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI) at the Polytechnic University of Turin, where she has coordinated PhD programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering since 2003. She is a member of the SISCON Interdepartmental Center for infrastructure safety and served on the Board of Directors of OSAI spa (2020-2022) as an independent director.

Her research focuses on asbestos mapping and monitoring, cultural/natural heritage, and waste recovery. She leads projects under the UNESCO IGCP 637 Her Stone network (2020-2023), addressing topics like critical raw material recovery from mining waste (CRITERIA project, 2024-2028) and e-waste-to-nanomaterials synthesis (EWASTE2NANO, 2025).

Marini's recent publications span asbestos quantification in infrastructure projects, microplastic analysis in textile wastewater, and resource recovery from mine waste. Her work intersects environmental engineering, materials science, and public health to mitigate asbestos risks in construction, cosmetics, and industrial sites.

She supervises PhD students Sinem Hazal Akyildiz (textile waste sustainability) and Gabriele Baldassarre (critical raw materials recovery). Marini also oversees commercial research contracts for companies like OSAI, focusing on mineral quality control and asbestos-free certification.
