Paola Costelli

Paola Costelli is a Professor in the Department of Clinical and Biological Sciences at the University of Turin, specializing in experimental medicine and pathophysiology. She teaches Immunology, Oncology, and Molecular Pathology courses for Biological Sciences and Cellular/Molecular Biology programs, while supervising PhD candidates in Experimental Medicine and Therapy.

Her research focuses on:

• Mechanisms and treatments for cancer cachexia and sarcopenia
• Role of olive oil components in correcting protein hypercatabolism
• Mitochondrial preservation through physical exercise
• Immunomodulation therapies for cancer-related muscle wasting
• Nutritional interventions for oncological patients

Professor Costelli leads multiple research projects targeting muscle loss in aging and cancer, including studies on small-molecule inhibitors for frailty and lifestyle interventions for muscle preservation. She serves on key academic bodies including the Departmental Council, Departmental Board, and Monitoring/Reassessment Commission of her department.
