Panayiotis G. Dimitrakopoulos is Professor of Functional Ecology at the Department of Environment, University of the Aegean, Greece. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of the Aegean in 2001 and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, funded by the European Science Foundation (LINKECOL program).
His research encompasses:
- Functional plant ecology and community dynamics
- Biodiversity conservation strategies
- Ecosystem restoration methodologies
- Conservation policy development
With over 85 peer-reviewed publications, his work spans ecological theory and applied conservation, frequently addressing protected area management. He maintains an active ORCID profile documenting his scholarly output.
Honors include:
- Leadership as President of the Hellenic Ecological Society
- Decade-long service on Greece's 'Natura 2000' National Committee
- Honorary fellowship at Anglia Ruskin University
