Panagopoulos Nikolaos is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Animal Biology, University of Patras. He holds office on the 3rd floor and can be contacted via npanago@upatras.gr or Tel: 2610 996155/2610 969227. His academic training includes a Biology degree (1984), PhD in Biology (1992), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Open and Distance Education (1999).
- Teaching: Undergraduate courses in Physiology of Animal Organisms, Neurobiology, Environmental Physiology; Postgraduate teaching in Molecular Physiology and Neurobiology
- Research: Dopaminergic system interactions, oxidative stress in neurodegeneration (weaver/pentylenetetrazole models), neuroprotective mechanisms, and antioxidant interventions
- Activities: Participated in 9 national research programs; developed methods for superoxide/hydroxyl radical detection and DNA damage quantification
- Collaborations: European Liquid Biopsy Society, Erasmus+ program
Scientific Expertise: His work focuses on neurotransmitter receptor dynamics, oxidative stress biomarkers (MDA, GSH/GSSG), antioxidant enzyme activity (catalase, SOD), and neuroprotectant agents like NAC, melatonin, and neurosteroid analogs. He has contributed to understanding dopaminergic neuron vulnerability in genetic models and age-related neurochemical changes.
Infrastructure: Affiliated with the University of Patras' Rio Campus facilities including specialized laboratories for neurochemical analysis and behavioral testing of animal models.
