Pamela Cowan is a Senior Lecturer (Education) at Queen's University Belfast's School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work. She has held key roles such as PGCE Course Director (2013-2017) and Programme Co-ordinator for ICT/Computing since 2000. Her teaching contributions include workshops on ICT/e-learning tools in schools, collaborating with organizations like iTeach and NI Screen/INTO Film, and delivering training on platforms like MinecraftEdu and Google Classrooms.
Her research focuses on educational technology integration, including computer adaptive testing, mobile learning, virtual/augmented reality applications, and computational thinking. She has presented globally at conferences and advises doctoral students on disseminating their work. Recent projects involve innovative uses of VR in teacher education partnerships and assessments of higher-order thinking skills in coding.
Cowan has received prestigious awards such as the SCoTENS John Coolahan Award (2018 and 2021) and multiple Staff Excellence nominations. She actively participates in peer review (e.g., for Technology, Knowledge and Learning) and serves as a PhD external examiner at institutions like Trinity College Dublin and Lancaster University.
