Paige Mitchell is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English and Director of the Writing Center at the University of Maine. She holds a B.A. (magna cum laude, 2009) and M.A. (magna cum laude, 2011) in Creative and Professional & Technical Writing from UMaine, with additional concentrations in gender and literature. Her research focuses on female empowerment, particularly among college students and incarcerated women, and translingual pedagogy. She has mentored 29 undergraduates and 2 graduates through research projects and publications, including two National Writing Project Fellows (2022) and McGillicuddy awardees (2021-22).
Her teaching spans translingual composition, business/technical writing, and peer-tutoring methodologies. She has co-authored research in Writing Studies and Gender Studies, presenting widely on pedagogies promoting gender equality. Mitchell directs the Writing Center, continuing the legacy of Professor Emeritus Harvey Kail, emphasizing peer-tutor professional development. Her work also includes collaborative initiatives with Orono High School’s Writing Center and correctional education programs.
Research Trends: Mitchell’s publications and presentations emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to literacy, identity, and equity in education. Recent efforts highlight mentorship frameworks, multilingual writing practices, and systemic barriers faced by marginalized groups in academia.
