Dr. PV Vara Prasad is a Professor of Crop Ecophysiology and Director of the Center for Sorghum Improvement at Kansas State University's Department of Agronomy. He holds a BS and MS from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University (India) and a PhD from the University of Reading (UK). His research focuses on crop responses to environmental stresses (temperature, water, climate change) and sustainable intensification strategies. He leads international research programs in Africa and Asia, addressing soil, water, and nutrient management to enhance crop productivity.
He teaches graduate courses in Crop Physiology and Advanced Crop Ecology, and has mentored 6 doctoral, 5 master’s students, and over 30 international scholars. Dr. Prasad serves on editorial boards of Crop Science, Agronomy Journal, and Journal of Crop Improvement, while actively participating in professional societies like the American Society of Agronomy and Crop Science Society of America.
His work integrates agronomic innovations with global food security challenges, emphasizing adaptive crop management under climate variability. Collaborations span institutions in Ghana, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Kenya, India, and the Philippines.
